23 “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
One day when I was 12 years old my brother asked me if I was a “born-again” christian. I did not understand the term “born-again”. What was it to be “born-again”? I began to read a children’s Bible to find the answer. Is it right that we all should be “born-again”? Or was it wrong?
My brother had a few American friends who lived in the Soviet Union and were missionaries here in Kazakhstan. That is how he became a Christian and understood what it was to be “born-again”. I wanted him to explain the meaning of this phrase but he did not, and I did not ask him about it. My only concern was to get an answer from God Himself.
As I read the Bible God explained and revealed to me how it should be. We should believe in Jesus Christ and repent – turn away from our wrongdoings. Then we can do good and live as Jesus wants us to.
My brother asked me again if I was “born-again”. He said it was not enough just to read the Bible. Now I realized that he was right. The Holy Spirit had convinced me that Jesus was really the Son of God. I was able to have FAITH in Him I told Jesus this with tears and crying as I prayed. My heart was deeply moved and I could FEEL His forgiveness.
After this I felt such FREEDOM. The burden (heavy weight) of my past sins were gone!! The guilt I used to have was gone!! I knew that I was forgiven!! It was from deep inside me…. Something I had never experienced before.
Soon after this the love of God was so strong within me that I had to share my new life and understanding with my teachers and other pupils in my school. I began to have small group meetings.
TO RECEIVE THIS FAITH ASK GOD ONE SIMPLE, DIRECT AND HONEST QUESTION: “GOD, IF JESUS IS YOUR SON AS THE BIBLE SAYS, PLEASE SHOW ME.” A true question deserves a true answer. God will show you personally.
